Teacher Bios

Laurie Burnaby
Laurie BurnabyLaurie Burnaby has been practicing yoga for 16 years and teaching for 10 years. She studied Iyengar Yoga for three years and has been a dedicated student of Ashtanga Yoga for the past 13 years. Her teachers are Steve Dwelley and Michele Nichols of the Ashtanga Yoga Shala located in Santa Barbara, and she has had the privilege of studying with the foremost Ashtanga teachers in the USA (Richard Freeman, Eddie Stern, Chuck Miller, Tim Miller, Eddie Modestini, Kristin Laak, David and Andrea Miliotis, John Berlinsky) and traveled to Mysore, India to study with Pattabhi Jois in 2000. Laurie is interviewed in the documentary “Ashtanga NY”. She taught for nine years at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center and now teaches privately and at SolDance in Solvang.
Susan Jaques
Susan JaquesSusan Jaques has been practicing and studying Integral Yoga for three years and is a Certified Integral Hatha Yoga Instructor for the level 1 student. She graduated from the Integral Yoga Institute of San Francisco after completing an intensive 200 hour teacher training course and is registered with Yoga Alliance. She has attended meditation classes once a month for two years under the instruction of her teacher Krishnaprema Jyothi, a direct student of Sri Swami Satchidananda, which includes discussion on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Susan has attended several workshops and classes over the last three years including a three day workshop at the Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia in 2005, enabling her to study and practice the Yoga Sutras, Asana and meditation in depth. She is excited to have the privilege to be able to serve by teaching in her community and continue to learn and follow her passion for the science of Integral Yoga.
Lee Anne Meinhold - Keese
Lee Anne Meinhold-KeeseLee Anne has been practicing, exploring and loving yoga since 1996.  Her study began at the Yoga Centre in San Luis Obispo in an effort to balance a stressful world and lifestyle.  She moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in 2003 and began teaching and has continued to study since 2004.  She brings focus to alignment and connection to the breath movement through flow as well as the quiet approach of the Yin Yoga style.  She completed her 200-hour certification with the Yoga Alliance in 2005.  She has studied with Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, Scott Blossom, Cheri Clampett, Arturo Peal, Shiva Rae and Catherine Halcomb-LaBarbera and others.  She continues to study closely the Yin, Shadow, Hatha and Therapy styles of yoga.  She is currently working towards her 500 hr. certification as a professional Yoga Therapist with Joseph LePage beginning in July 2007. Lee Anne is always learning and always appreciative of the many beneficial gifts that teaching has brought into her life. 
Ragnhild Reif
Ragnhild has practiced Pilates for several years.  She currently teaches mat classes at Soldance  and offers  private training on the Reformer and the Cadillac, as well.  She is Polestar Pilates trained and has completed "Polestar Pilates Fitness Principles" and "Polestar Pilates Studio" education, Levels 1 and 2.  Ragnhild takes private Pilates classes from Shevi Baruch on a weekly basis as a way to continue her own education.
Julie Samuels - Metheany and Ellen Levine, Co-Owners
Julie and EllenJulie Samuels-Metheany has been teaching dance and movement for over 25 years. Her life experience is seasoned with her professions as an eating disorder therapist  and her movement classes are a combination of exercise and freedom of the heart and soul. Julie uses the movement and the group dynamics to help people experience freedom for both their body and mind. 

Ellen Levine is the mother of four children and has been practicing yoga for over 10 years. She spent the first part of her professional career in marketing and sales for large corporations. Ellen brings her marketing and computer expertise as well as her love for yoga together to provide the business aspects of running the studio.

Together, Julie & Ellen created SolDance Studio. Their teamwork has allowed the business to grow and prosper for nearly three years.
 
Krischana Thompson
Krischana ThompsonKrischana has been dancing since the wonderful age of 5. She has a very full dance background beginning with ballet from the age of 5 through 9. After that, she experimented with many forms of dance including competition roller skating and drill team. She went on to learn ballet and jazz at Santa Barbara City College and eventually even achieved black belt status in karate! Starting in the year 2000, Krischana began to study belly dancing with Judeen. Since then she has had the opportunity to perform up and down the coast of California and has joined the UCSB Middle Eastern dance ensemble under the direction of Alexandra King. In 2008, Krischana intends to compete for the Belly Dancer of the Universe!
